Scouted at the age of 14 in London, but never excited by modelling, in her words; “the world of modelling is harsh and brutal, you are simply a 2D image judged solely on one moment snapped in time.” So she continued her studies, gaining 8 A*s and 2 A’s at GCSE. Then after 6 years in a strict all girls’ school, she decided to take an early GAP year. During this year out from her studies, she became a voluntary youth worker undertaking work with several not-for-profit organisations, primarily working with underprivileged young people, inspiring them to be their best, helping to give them the tools they need to live their lives to it’s fullest potential. She worked here in Wales, in London, California, Thailand and Burma. At an event where she was working with these children in London, she conquered her stage fright, standing in front of the 10 000 strong audience which also consisted of Miss Wales 2005. Miss Wales 2005, Claire Evans, saw something in this makeup less girl wearing her huge yellow volunteer t-shirt and told her about the Miss Wales competition and how to enter.
Pageanting – “perfection”. To Sarah, a teenager passionate about charitable causes and speaking about things you truly believe in, the Miss Wales pageant seemed to be the ideal platform to raise awareness for specific issues concerning our world today. With this in mind, Sarah entered the competition, she gained a 5 point head-start at the semi-finals by being “Miss Military Fitness” – showing the most team skills on the day, among other things, this helped her to shine her way to becoming the youngest Miss Wales in history at only 16 years of age.
This led to being tossed into a whirlwind of opportunities in both the modelling world and allowed Sarah to follow her passion for being a spokes model, and a role model. She continued her studies whilst fulfilling her Miss Wales duties and attending the Miss World pageant in Poland. After her reign ended as Miss Wales, Sarah pursued her interst for worthy causes and as an active campaigner for green issues, she entered the Miss Earth UK pageant where she won the title of Miss Earth Wales and went on to compete in the Miss Earth pageant in the Philippines.
She has competed in 2 of the “big 3” international pageants, something very few can say they’ve achieved and having witnessed and absorbed techniques and skills from around the world, she feels that it is her turn to give back and help other young women have the same amazing experiences that she’s been blessed with.
